MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin has said he believes that the new administration of the United States is unlikely to implement the Artemis program on the Moon.
"I don't much believe even in the Artemis program," Rogozin said during a roundtable on the consequences of changes in U.S. policy in space exploration held at Russia's Federation Council on Monday.
"In many ways, [U.S. President Donald] Trump's space lunar program was mostly oriented toward domestic consumption. It was an element of the display of the Republican Party's might. I'm not sure the Democrats will do the same. At least, I'm sure that emphasis will be placed in a different way," Rogozin said.
As reported earlier, the Artemis mission is a U.S. project to resume flights to the Moon and explore it. The first flight is scheduled for 2024, and it envisages astronauts landing on the lunar surface.
On October 29, NASA and the European Space Agency signed an agreement on cooperation in building the Gateway station in lunar orbit as part of the Artemis program.
