MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - The nuclear-powered cruiser Admiral Nakhimov will return to the Russian Navy following an upgrade in late 2022, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said.
"We've scrutinized the course of the repair work. We expect to receive the ship as planned, in late 2022. This deadline is not in question," Krivoruchko said during an inspection checking the fulfillment of the State Defense Order at the Sevmash shipyard.
"The Admiral Nakhimov is a state-of-the-art cruiser armed with precision long-range weapons. First of all, this is the advanced Tsirkon hypersonic missile. The ship is also to be armed with Oniks missiles and the Kalibr cruise missile system known around the world. The ship's defense will be based on Fort-M and Pantsyr-M air defense systems and powerful anti-submarine weapons," the Russian Defense Ministry's information department said in a statement.
