ROSTOV-ON-DON. Dec 21 (Interfax) - The combined-arms armies of the Southern Military District will get a new motorized infantry division and electronic warfare and air defense units in 2021, the District's Commander Alexander Dvornikov said during the Defense Ministry's end-of-year collegium on Monday.
"The Southern Military District will continue increasing its combat potential in the forthcoming year. The Caspian Flotilla will be joined by naval aviation units. The Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla will form about ten crews of warships and support vessels. The district's combined-arms armies will get a fourth motorized infantry division, a surface-to-air missile formation, EW and air defense units," Dvornikov said.
The district also will receive over 3,000 types of modern weapons and equipment, about the same as it did this year, including planes, helicopters, ships, battle tanks, and the latest command and communications systems, which now account for 70 per cent of the arsenal, Dvornikov said.
