MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - The spread of military confrontation into cyberspace and outer space increases the risk of nuclear weapon incidents, Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov said.
"Military confrontation is spreading into cyberspace and outer space, which increases the risk of incidents caused by interference in the functioning of nuclear weapon control and operation systems," Gerasimov said at a briefing for foreign military attaches.
The official vision of the essence of nuclear deterrence is laid down by "The Fundamentals of the Russian State Policy in the Field of Nuclear Deterrence," which, "is strictly defensive and aimed to maintain the nuclear forces' potential at the level sufficient for deterrence," he said.
"Nuclear weapons are viewed as the means of forcing the potential adversary to not unleash an aggression against our country," Gerasimov said.
