Russian, Egyptian FMs discuss NPP construction, Libya, Syria

MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry have discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Syria and Libya in a telephone call on Friday.

"Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of the large-scale projects of bilateral commercial and economic cooperation, the construction of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the creation of the Russian industrial zone in Egypt," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Additionally, Lavrov and Shouky noted the need to ensure the inclusive nature of the national dialogue in Libya and reiterated commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country, as well as peaceful settlement of the intra-Libyan conflict in accordance with the decision of the Berlin International Conference and the provisions of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2510, the ministry said.

The ministers affirmed the need to ensure the Syrians' rights to determine the fate of their country independently, as envisaged by the UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

The foreign ministers of the two countries affirmed the need for the consolidation of international efforts to relaunch the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to resolve all issues of the final status and achieve comprehensive peace in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
