Russian military carried out over 2,500 humanitarian operations in Syria over 4 years

DAMASCUS. Dec 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Sides has conducted 2,670 humanitarian operations in Syria for the entire period of its work, Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Sytnik, deputy head of the center, told reporters.

"Since the beginning of the settlement process, the Russian Reconciliation Center has carried out 2,670 humanitarian operations in all Syrian governorates. The total weight of the humanitarian cargo amounted to more than 4,600 tonnes of foodstuffs," Sytnik said at the final press briefing dealing with humanitarian operations and the restoration of peaceful life in Syria.

The center's specialists plan to preserve the volume of humanitarian aid in the coming year, he said. "Humanitarian operations will continue in the same volume. That is, two or three operations in each governorate every month," the rear admiral said.

The Russian military delivers food packages to residents of the cities and towns in Syria, including rice, flour, sugar, condensed milk, tea, traditional Arabian flatbread and other products, he said.

The assistance is being provided to the most vulnerable layers of the Syrian population, in particular to families who have lost their breadwinners, the deputy head of the center said.
