MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Over 49,000 refugees have returned to Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia, deputy head of the Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh Dmitry Perepyolkin said on Wednesday.
"The peacekeeping contingent is continuing to ensure the safe return of refugees to Nagorno-Karabakh. As of today, 49,054 people have already returned there," Perepyolkin said.
Russian doctors provided medical aid to 1,238 local residents, including 157 children, he said.
"Field engineering teams of the humanitarian demining center are continuing to clear the area of explosive items.As of today, 750 buildings, including 24 socially significant ones, 198 kilometers of roads have been checked, 23,404 explosive items have been found, and 525 hectares of terrain have been cleared," Perepyolkin added.
