MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Roscosmos and Crocus Group have signed a contract for the construction of an airport at Vostochny Cosmodrome, the state corporation said on Friday.
"The Roscosmos state corporation has begun the creation of an airport complex at Vostochny Cosmosdrome. In December 2020, a comprehensive state contract was signed with the sole contractor, Crocus Group, which has successfully implemented more than a dozen large projects, including in the Far East," Roscosmos said.
The airport may be international in the future, it said.
The airport will "serve all types of passenger, transport and specialized planes and will also be in charge of all measures concerning the search and rescue of crews, Roscosmos said. It will take Antonov An-124 and Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft.
According to state procurement information, 35.28 billion rubles has been provided for construction. The first stage, worth 28 billion rubles, is expected to be completed by 2025.
Vostochny is the youngest cosmodrome in Russia. The first launch from the cosmodrome took place in 2016. Five launches of Soyuz rockets have been carried out there since the start of the operation of the cosmodrome. The second stage objects, which will be used for launching Angara rockets, are now being built at the cosmodrome.
