Russia's Northern Fleet ship to hold artillery live-fire exercise in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The Snezhnogorsk small antisubmarine ship sailed out into the Barents Sea on Friday to carry out artillery drills, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The ship will fire AK-176M and AK-630M artillery systems against coastal, surface and air targets," the ministry's website stated.

The ship will "carry out a number of standard antisubmarine, air defense and damage control drills," the ministry said, noting that this is a planned exercise

The Snezhnogorsk is armed with AK-176M and AK-630M surface-to-air artillery systems, RBU-6000 rocket launchers and 533mm torpedo tubes, modern sonar systems. It is intended for submarine search and destruction in the near-shore and coastal zones.
