Air defense units in Russia's Altai practice use of Buk-M3 systems to repel simulated enemy's air raid

NOVOSIBIRSK. Jan 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Air defense units of the 41st Combined Arms Army of Russia's Central Military District in the Altai territory have practiced the destruction of a simulated enemy's clustered air targets, the district's press service reported.

According to the exercise scenario, a simulated enemy planned an airstrike upon the troops.

"The personnel of the antiaircraft missile unit marched on their standard vehicles toward the operational area, deployed a Buk-M3 air defense missile system, detected highly-maneuverable targets at a long distance from the protected sites, tracked them, and destroyed them electronically once they were within the engagement range," it said.

The highly-maneuverable targets flew at high speeds and at extremely low altitudes, following the terrain and performing maneuvers, it said.

The Central Military District's antiaircraft missile brigade received Buk-M3 systems at the end of 2020.

The 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District is stationed in the Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions, the Altai territory, and Tuva. It is comprised of motorized infantry, artillery, air defense, radiological, chemical, and biological defense, and communication forces.
