Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service website attacked from 15 countries

MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - A major hacking attack launched yesterday on the websites of Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service was carried out from more than a dozen countries, the Federal Penitentiary Service said on Monday.

"Our official site and those of our area branches and educational facilities have been subjected to mass DDoS [Distributed Denial-of-Service] attacks from 6 p.m. January 17 up to present," the penitentiary service said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Monday.

"The attacks were carried out from foreign servers based in China, the United States, Turkey, South Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Pakistan, Thailand, Germany, Japan, France, South Korea, Singapore, Canada, and India," it said.
