MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Moscow's Simonovsky District Court has delayed until February 2 the consideration of an appeal to repeal the suspended sentence handed down to Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny, which was initiated by the Moscow department of the Federal Penitentiary Service in connection with a failure to fulfill the obligations imposed by the court.
"The court session has been postponed from January 29 to February 2 at 10 a.m. Moscow Time," Olga Mikhailova, the opposition activist's lawyer, told Interfax.
The lawyer said that the defense team has already received the relevant notice from the court.
"The reasons for postponement are unclear," Mikhailova said.
In turn, court spokesperson Kristina Shvadchenko confirmed information on the postponement of the court session to Interfax.
"The court session has been postponed in order to ensure that Navalny is properly notified of the date of the court hearing no later than within 14 days," Shvadchenko said.
The Khimki City Court outside of Moscow ordered at a hearing at a local police station on Monday that Navalny be taken into pretrial custody for at least 30 days, until February 15.
