MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The Russian Northern Fleet carried out a comprehensive training exercise that focused on defending an airfield from an air raid, including an attack of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), the fleet's press service said.
"Servicemen from different units of the fleet's air force and air defense force conducted a comprehensive training exercise to repel a mock enemy air raid on a secured facility on the premises of the Northern Fleet's Safonovo seaplane base in the Murmansk region," the press service said.
The drill involved a Pantsir-S1 air defense missile and gun system, a Kamov Ka-29 assault helicopter, combat aircraft, and 100 servicemen, the fleet's headquarters said.
"During the exercise, the units, taking advantage of the combat experience gained in Syria, acted jointly to provide defense again a mock enemy air attack. Specifically, the servicemen equipped with automatic small arms and Pantsir-S1 air defense artillery system practiced repelling an UAV attack," the press service said.
It was the first such comprehensive training exercise carried out by the fleet's air force and air defense force, it said.
"The force's commander Lieut. Gen. Alexander Otroshchenko said that the military units' personnel who took part in the exercise acted confidently and successfully accomplished the training mission," it said.
