Russia starts major military drills in Siberia, Ural

NOVOSIBIRSK. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Over 3,500 troops from Russia's Central Military District have been engaged in military exercises in four Siberian and one Ural regions, the district's press service said on Thursday.

"Motorized infantry, tank, engineering, and artillery units, signal and air defense forces, as well as support and reconnaissance units have been engaged in attaining combat training objectives at ranges in the Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, and Tyumen regions, the Altai territory, and the republic of Tuva. The exercises, which started today, will continue for two days and will involve more than 3,500 troops and about 800 items of military and special hardware," it said.

The troops will march toward the designated areas, where they are supposed to practice the organization of a command system, arrange air defense and oppose the simulated enemy's electronic warfare, and practice firing standard weapons.
