MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The Taliban movement (banned in Russia) is hopeful that Russia will help secure the removal of Taliban members from the United Nations list of terrorist organizations, representative of the Taliban political office in Qatar Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanekzai said in Moscow on Friday.
"We're counting on Russia's assistance to put this agreement into practice," Stanekzai told reporters in response to a question from Interfax.
Moscow is in favor of removing Taliban members from the UN sanctions lists, he said.
"We have discussed this issue with [Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department] Mr. Zamir Kabulov. He supports the idea," Stanekzai said.
