MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The administration of Baikonur has extended coronavirus restrictions until February 14.
"On the proposal of the Baikonur complex's chief public health official, administration head Konstantin Busygin has issued a resolution to extend the period of high alert for the administration and emergency prevention and mitigation services in the town of Baikonur, as well as measures aimed to prevent and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the town for the period until 12:01 a.m. on February 14, 2021," the town administration website said in a statement on Friday.
At the same time, the town administration head lifted restrictions on the size of groups traveling across the town, walking or staying in the town territory.
"The operative headquarters urges town residents to wear masks indoors, to maintain social distancing, to comply with sanitary regulations, and to mind personal hygiene," the administration said.
The town of Baikonur is the administrative and residential center of the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The lifting of restrictive measures, imposed in Baikonur in spring 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, began in early summer, but the measures had to be reinstated because of another outbreak of infections.
Five flights have been performed to help Baikonur deal with the coronavirus epidemic. The flights had specialists from the Federal Medical Biological Agency and relevant equipment onboard.
According to the Baikonur regional branch of Russia's Federal Medical Biological Agency, the town had seen a total of 1,186 Covid-19 cases as of January 29, including 545 recoveries and 70 deaths. Nine patients are still receiving therapy in the infectious diseases hospital.
