Courts in Pskov region, Komi give new punishments to Navalny's supporters

PSKOV/SYKTYVKAR/MURMANSK. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The Pskov City Court has found Arkady Markov, a resident of Pskov, guilty of calling on citizens to participate in an unauthorized event on January 23, the court press service said.

The man is charged with calling on citizens to participate in a January 23 event without filing a notification about the event, and also participating in it.

Markov was sentenced to five days of administrative arrest. The ruling has not taken legal force yet.

A resident of Syktyvkar was also subjected to liability for participation in a public unauthorized event, the city court press service said. He was sentenced to two days of administrative arrest. A local resident was fined 5,000 rubles for the same offense.

Violetta Grudina, coordinator of the local headquarters of Alexei Navalny, was detained in Murmansk. The opposition activist's Murmansk headquarters said the police had detained Grudina on Friday and taken her to the Oktyabrsky District Court, which returned the materials of the administrative case involving the organization of an unauthorized march in Navalny's support to the police on Wednesday.

The court hearing was rescheduled to February 1 due to the absence of the lawyer. The police detained Grudina again after the court hearing, which did not take place, activists said.

Unauthorized events in support of Navalny, who was arrested after returning to Russia, were held in some cities of Russia on January 23.

According to Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko, more than 15 people have been detained in the country's regions on suspicion of crimes committed at protests on that day. Twenty-one criminal cases have been opened.
