Number of foreign diplomats attending Navalny hearing unprecedented - Moscow City Court

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court has confirmed that opposition activist Alexei Navalny's court hearing has attracted the attention of an unprecedented number of European diplomats, who are attending a visiting session of the Simonovsky District Court on the premises of the Moscow City Court.

"Notably, the presence of so many representatives of foreign embassies at the court hearing of a Russian citizen has never happened in the practice of the Moscow City Court or district courts before," Moscow City Court press secretary Ulyana Solopova told Interfax.

"Ambassadors and embassy employees sometimes attend open court sessions, but only if they involve citizens of other states, for example Paul Whelan, and there are never more than one or two embassy representatives at a time," Solopova said.
