Russia expels 3 diplomats from Swedish, Polish, German embassies for participating in illegal rallies - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Russia is expelling three foreign diplomats who participated in unsanctioned rallies on January 23, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The Foreign Ministry of Russia summoned the ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden, the charge d'affaires ad interim of Poland, and an envoy from the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to protest against the participation in illegal rallies on January 23, 2021 of diplomatic staff from the consulates general of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Poland in St. Petersburg and from the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Moscow. It was stressed that such actions on their part are unacceptable and unsuitable to their diplomatic status," the statement said.

"The diplomats who participated in the illegal rallies have been declared personae non gratae under the April 18, 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. They have been ordered to leave the Russian Federation as early as possible," it said.
