MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax) - Russia is interested in restoring relations with the EU, but will be resolute in countering any attempts to interfere in its interests, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Russia has been and remains interested in restoring relations between Moscow and Brussels. It wasn't us who initiated the curtailment of those relations," Peskov said. "We proceed from the need to take each other's interests into account in order to maintain relations. We are categorically against interfering in each other's interests and the use of double standards. In this area, we will be very resolute, and no one should have any doubts about that," he said.
Peskov thus commented on the statements made by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell after his visit to Moscow.
However, this does not mean that Russia wishes "to grow more distant or worsen the already poor relations between Moscow and Brussels in any way," Peskov said.
"Quite the opposite, we are interested in developing them," he said.
