Air defense repels long-range MLRS attack on Hmeimim air base

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax) - An attack on the Hmeimim air base in Syria has been repelled, the Russian military said.

"Russian air defense systems repelled an attack on the Hmeimim air base which used long-range multiple rocket launcher systems at 7:45 p.m. Moscow Time," Rear Adm. Vyacheslav Sytnik, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, said at a briefing on Wednesday.

There have been no casualties or damage, and the air base "is operating routinely," Sytnik said.

"The air data recording means have determined that the attack was conducted from the territory of the Idlib de-escalation zone controlled by illegal armed units," he said.
