Over 1,000 Baltic Fleet mine disposal experts involved in exercise in Kaliningrad region

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Military engineers are conducting an exercise to practice defusing explosive objects in the Kaliningrad region, Russia's Baltic Fleet reported on Friday.

"Over 1,000 troops and over 200 units of combat and special engineering hardware have been involved in a camp training exercise at ranges in the Kaliningrad region," it said.

The units involved in the exercise have conducted engineering reconnaissance of the troops and hardware deployment routes for the presence of explosive objects.

"The detection of antitank mines, booby-traps, improvised explosive devices, and camouflaged tripwire mines and their neutralization with pressure charges were also practiced using mine detection dogs," it said.

The engineers employed the Kobra-1600 robot for the reconnaissance, search for, and primary examination of potentially dangerous objects. "To perform such operations, the robot is equipped with a set of video cameras and a retractable robotic arm with a gripper capable of lifting and moving loads weighing up to 25 kilos," the Baltic Fleet said.
