Western Military District tanks practice in Moscow region amid frosts of -30 degrees Celsius - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Tanks of the Western Military District's Guards Red Banner Tank Army have practiced under extremely low temperatures at the Golovenky range in the Moscow region, the district press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Outdoor temperatures dropped to -30 degrees Celsius as the tanks were leaving the motor pool for the training range. T-72B3 and T-80U tank had a firing drill and destroyed tanks, recoilless weapons and grenade launcher crews of the mock enemy," the statement said.

Tank commanders were tasked with destroying low-flying aircraft of the mock enemy on distances of 600 to 1,200 meters using 12.7mm Kord machineguns, the ministry said.

The firing drill involved over 100 servicemen and more than 30 pieces of weapons and military hardware of the Western Military District's tank formation.
