Children's ombudsman preparing to repatriate 105 Russian children from Syria

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Anna Kuznetsova is making arrangements for the repatriation of 105 Russian children from armed conflict zones in Syria.

"We now have 105 documents dealing with our children. We are closely keeping in touch and communicating with the administration of the camp in Al-Qamishli as we search for the children," Kuznetsova told reporters on Wednesday.

Children from two camps, Al-Hawl and Roj, have been found in the shelter in Al-Qamishli, she said.

There are also Russian children in the Syrian capital of Damascus, Kuznetsova said.

"We didn't know that they were there. Their relatives contacted us too late. But it's good that we've learned about them. We're ready to collect them. They've already been located," she said.

In all, 293 Russian children have been expatriated from armed conflict zones in the Middle East, among them 122 children from Iraq and another 171 from Syria, since the interagency commission under the auspices of the children's ombudsman began working.
