Further Israeli strikes on Syria may prompt Damascus to retaliate, cause new round of tensions - Russian envoy

SOCHI. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Further Israeli strikes on Syria may prompt Damascus to retaliate and cause a new round of tensions, Russian special presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said.

"These strikes need to stop. They are counterproductive. We hope the Israeli side will hear our concerns, including concerns about the possibility of an escalation of violence on the territory of Syria," Lavrentyev told a press conference on Wednesday.

"Our cup of patience, including that of the Syrian government, may overflow sooner or later and a retaliatory strike will follow, which will, accordingly, cause a new round of tensions," he said.
