MOSCOW/DONETSK. Feb 17 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics have proposed holding an international scientific and practical conference on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements to settle the Donbas crisis, Russian representative to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) Boris Gryzlov said.
"Today, Donbas representatives came up with an initiative to hold an international scientific and practical conference on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements to resolve the Donbas crisis [...]. Such an event would contribute to reaching a common understanding of the essence and content of the spirit and letter of the Minsk Agreements, which would further contribute to a practical settlement of the conflict," he told reporters following the TCG meeting.
According to him, for 6 years there has been no answer to the question of how Ukraine intends to resolve the crisis.
Gryzlov expressed hope that the idea of holding the conference will be supported, and representatives of the UN member states and international organizations will take part in it.
He also said with regret that the situation on the line of contact remains "extremely complicated," and "the Ukrainian government and the command of the Ukrainian armed forces are seeking further aggravation."
On Wednesday, regular TCG talks on the settlement of the crisis in eastern Ukraine took place. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were held via videoconference.
The next TCG meeting will be held on March 3, the DPR Foreign Ministry said.
