Armenian PM Pashinyan calls for end to protest rallies, says ready for consultations

YEREVAN. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has called for ending protest rallies and beginning a dialogue among all political forces.

"I am calling on all political forces to end the protest demonstrations and acts of disobedience and start a conversation. I am prepared to hold consultations even with the most radical forces," Pashinyan said at a rally of his supporters he gathered on Republic Square in central Yerevan on Thursday.

The organization of early parliamentary elections may be a subject for such negotiations, Pashinyan said. "I am inviting the president either to sign a decree on relieving Onik Gasparyan of his duties as chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, or he should step down himself, and then we'll begin a political dialogue," he said.

Pashinyan warned that, if the protest demonstrations continue, his supporters would also gather similar rallies. "And if unlawful calls are made at their [the opposition's] demonstrations, they'll be arrested," he said.
