Azerbaijani president warns Armenia against attempting to take revenge in Karabakh (Part 2)

BAKU. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan will respond swiftly to any attempts by Armenia to take revenge in Karabakh, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"We will spring into action if we feel any threat posed by revanchist statements coming from Armenia," Aliyev said at a press conference on Friday

Long-awaited peace will be established in the region if Armenia drops attempts at revenge and continues to fulfill its obligations under the trilateral agreement of November 10, 2020, he said.

"Please note that there are no Armenian units in the northeastern areas of Zangezur, Zangelan, and Gubadli, and all is quiet there. Not a single incident between Azerbaijani border guards and the Armenian civilian population has been recorded. We don't cross the state border," Aliyev said, adding, "It looks like Armenia has no border forces, considering their absence in the area. Since Russian border forces are protecting the Armenian-Iranian and Armenian-Turkish borders, we're not taking any actions against the civilian population on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border."

Many roads to Armenian cities go through Azerbaijan, and a big billboard reading "Welcome to Azerbaijan" which has been placed on one such road causes Armenians severe irritation, Aliyev said. "I understand that people in Armenia are irritated by this billboard, but we had a different intention when we put it up: we're ready to take in Armenians if they decide to cross into the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan," he said.
