MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - The crew of the International Space Station (ISS) will cover the crack on board it with a third layer of sealant and a special patch, the press service for the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation said in a statement.
"Under the guidance of specialists from the main taskforce for control of the Russian segment of the ISS, Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergei Ryzhikov will prepare the surface before he applies a third layer of sealant, will apply the sealant, and will cover the presumed source of the air leak on the hull with a patch," the press service said.
Once the patch has been put into place, the cosmonauts will apply another layer of sealant on top.
The crewmembers drilled two holes on the sides of the crack on Thursday in order to reduce tension and prepare the crack for sealing. After the holes were drilled, the crewmembers cleaned the surface with an alcohol wipe and covered it with a special sealant.
