Lithuania won't consider Minsk's request to extradite Tikhanovskaya

VILNIUS. March 5 (Interfax/BNS) - Lithuania does not intend to consider a request from the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office seeking the extradition of former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said.

"Everyone who finds refuge in Lithuania can feel safe that they will not be extradited to regimes - neither for their struggle for democracy, nor freedom of expression and religious views," Landsbergis said in a commentary on Friday.

The Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office earlier forwarded a request to the Prosecutor General's Office of Lithuania demanding Tikhanovskaya's extradition to face prosecution for "crimes against the government system, public security, and the state."
