MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - The production and construction company Kazan is planning to appeal a court decision for it to suspend the construction of the launch pad for Angara rockets at Vostochny Cosmodrome, the company's press service told Interfax on Friday.
"The court ruling will be appealed. As for the legal action, it should be noted that at issue is primarily the documentation which was not submitted in due course. Because of the pandemic we could not get the necessary documentation from suppliers on time. But we are making every effort to resolve the problem as quickly as possible," the spokesperson said, adding that, "construction of the Angara launch pad continues."
The ruling was issued earlier on Friday by an Amur regional arbitration court in a case brought by an oversight department of the Russian Defense Ministry.
The lawsuit from the ministry's architectural and construction oversight department No. 119 was filed in January this year. In it the plaintiff sued the contractor (Kazan Production and Construction Association) under Part 3 Article 9.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (continuing to provide services before compiling a report on having addressed failings).
On Thursday the court satisfied the legal claim.
A source told Interfax that the construction was still continuing, saying "work is being carried out in fact."
"I assume that the resolution of this issue will be discussed at a high level," the source said.
Currently under construction is the second-phase launch infrastructure for the Angara rockets. The first launch is scheduled for 2023; the prospective crewed spacecraft Oryol (Eagle) is due to be launched atop a rocket the same year.
