Air regiment in Russia's Central Military District receives modernized Su-34 bomber

YEKATERINBURG. March 10 (Interfax) - A modernized generation 4++ Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber has been delivered to a joint air regiment in Russia's Central Military District stationed in the Chelyabinsk region, the district's press service said on Wednesday.

"The regiment's flight and engineering personnel has accepted the upgraded plane at the manufacturing facility and completed its relocation to its permanent airfield in the Chelyabinsk region. The upgraded Su-34 fighter-bomber carries special equipment enhancing its capability to detect aerial and ground targets and expanding its air-launched arsenal," it said.

This Su-34 is the first fighter-bomber in the Central Military District to have undergone modernization and been delivered to an air force and air defense forces army in 2021.

The Su-34 has been developed by Sukhoi (part of the United Aircraft Corporation, or UAC) and has been manufactured serially since 2005. The plane is designed to destroy ground, naval and aerial targets and infrastructure facilities in daytime and at night in any weather conditions. It is armed with guided long-range air-to-surface and air-to-air missiles. Its range is up to 4,000 kilometers and speed up to 1,900 km/h. It can carry a weapon payload weighing up to eight tonnes, and its crew comprises two people.
