MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - A militant who was plotting a terror attack and opened fire at law enforcement officers in Makhachkala has been killed, the National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said in a statement on Thursday.
"A militant who opened gunfire was neutralized on March 11 during a counterterrorism operation aimed to put an end to preparations for a terror attack in Dagestan," NAC said.
A rifle, large quantities of ammunition and a ready-to-use explosive device, the so-called suicide bomber belt, were found at the shootout scene.
The special operation did not lead to either civilian or law enforcement casualties, NAC said.
"Security services are carrying out investigative and operative procedures," it said.
The counterterrorism operation began in Makhachkala on Thursday morning, as the militant opened fire at law enforcement officers.
Security services said he was plotting terror attacks.
