YEKATERINBURG. March 16 (Interfax) - MiG-31BM fighter-interceptors stationed in Russia's Central Military District have foiled a mock enemy's reconnaissance operation and destroyed its aircraft during exercise in Krasnoyarsk Territory, the district's press service said on Tuesday.
"The exercise involved eleven aircraft: the MiG-31BM fighter-interceptors, the Antonov An-26 and An-12 transport aircraft, and an AEW&C AK A-50, which spent more than five hours in mid-air," the statement said.
Using the Shmel radio-technical system, the A-50's radar detected mock enemy aircraft spying on military installations: the intruders were flying at a low altitude within a distance of around 400 kilometers. The MiG-31BMs on patrol carried out electronic launches of air-to-air missiles destroying the mock enemy aircraft.
