Patrushev discusses military-technical cooperation with Vietnamese General Staff chief

MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Chief of the General Staff of the People's Army of Vietnam Phan Van Giang discussed strengthening and developing defense ties and military-technical cooperation between the two countries, Security Council spokesperson Yevgeny Anoshin said.

"The two sides stressed that military and military-technical cooperation are among the key elements of the all-encompassing strategic partnership between Russia and Vietnam and are of a trust-based and advanced nature," Anoshin said.

Particular emphasis was placed on training Vietnamese servicemen at Russian military academies, joint combat training, improving the legal framework for military cooperation, and the prospects for technological cooperation, he said.

"Furthermore, [the pair] exchanged views on the military-political situation in the Asia Pacific region," Anoshin said.

The meeting took place in Hanoi as part of Patrushev's two-day working visit to Vietnam.
