Kremlin regrets UK's decision to increase its nuclear stockpile, decision harmful to int'l stability - Peskov

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - The Kremlin regrets the decision of the UK's authorities to lift the cap on the country's nuclear stockpile, a step which the Kremlin believes is harmful to international stability and strategic security.

"We very much regret it that the United Kingdom has made a choice in favor of increasing the number of its nuclear warheads. Of course, this decision harms international stability and strategic security," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

London, in turn, has explained this decision by citing the existence of "some ephemeral threat coming from Russia," Peskov said.

"The only thing I can say here is that this isn't true. Russia doesn't pose any threat," he said.

"Russia has been and remains a supporter of international talks, above all talks with the U.S. on strategic stability," Peskov said.

"In this context, the fact that Russia is being portrayed as some threat is unacceptable to us, because it isn't true. Russia isn't a threat," he said.
