Putin expects from prosecutor general report on overpopulation in Federal Penitentiary Service detention facilities

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Prosecutor General's Office to look into regime violations in detention facilities in the country.

"Violations of regime requirements, caused by the overpopulation of detention facilities in the penitentiary system. An analysis by the regions of the federation also needs to be conducted here. We need to look closer," Putin said at a board meeting at the Prosecutor General's Office.

He asked the prosecutor general to give him a note on this matter.

"Maybe we can help the regions, maybe the system itself: the Interior Ministry system and the penitentiary system. There are enough problems there, but there are vital issues, I see, and there needs to be a relevant reaction to them," Putin said.
