Moscow resolutely condemns Yemeni Houthi's missile strike on Saudi Arabia - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 22 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned the actions of the Houthis from Yemen who delivered a missile strike on a Saudi Aramco facility outside Riyadh.

"According to latest information, in the morning of March 19, the Houthis from Yemen used drones to perform yet another missile strike on the territory of Saudi Arabia, which has been providing support to the government forces of the Republic of Yemen in the lasting intra-Yemeni armed conflict," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Saturday.

The missile strike targeted an oil refinery outside the Saudi capital Riyadh. According to reports, no one was injured during the attack. The fire that broke out at the facility following the strike was promptly contained and extinguished.

"Moscow resolutely condemns the aforementioned display of force. We strongly urge all parties to the conflict in Yemen to strictly observe the provisions of international humanitarian law and immediately and comprehensively cease combat operations which result in damage of the civilian infrastructure and casualties among civilians," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In this light, the Russian side reiterated its "principled and consistent stance in favor of a prompt cessation of violence in the Republic of Yemen and the launch of the extensive intra-Yemeni negotiating process aimed at developing comprehensive solutions, based on taking into account the legitimate interests of all concerned parties, to numerous problems Yemen and its neighboring states are facing."

"We will continue comprehensively facilitating it during our contacts with the leading political forces of the Republic of Yemen and concerned foreign players," the ministry said.
