YEREVAN. March 22 (Interfax) - The officially confirmed number of Armenia's fatalities in the Nagorno-Karabakh war last fall stands at 3,250, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"The number of victims officially confirmed to date stands at 3,250. One hundred eight-nine parents are awaiting DNA test results. There is quite a long list of missing persons, but this list needs an update, because in the past few months ten people from the list have been found at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport trying to leave to Armenia," Pashinyan said at a meeting with rural residents during a trip to the country's Aragatsotn District on Saturday.
The total number of Armenian combat deaths should not exceed 4,000, he said. "Of course, this is a big figure, but they died for Karabakh to be," Pashinyan said.
On March 15 the defense army of the non-recognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) published an updated list of servicemen killed during hostilities in the Karabakh conflict zone by adding 96 names. In total, there were 2,460 servicemen on the list as of March 15.
Furthermore, according to the NKR interior ministry, 1,518 dead bodies were found in the conflict zone between November 13 and March 19.
The hostilities began on September 27. In the early hours of November 10 the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia adopted a trilateral statement on ceasefire, introducing Russian peacekeepers, and handing over several of the region's districts to Azerbaijan.
Searches for the dead in the Karabakh conflict zone continue.
