MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - S-300V4 air defense missile systems that have been deployed on the Kuril Islands, S-400 systems deployed in Sakhalin, and MiG-31BM interceptor planes deployed in Chukotka have ensured the solid protection of the Russian Far Eastern border between the Chukchi Sea and the Sea of Japan, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"On December 1, 2020, air defense missile units operating modern S-300V4 systems were put on combat duty on the Kuril Islands, alongside S-400 systems on the Sakhalin Island and MiG-31BM high-altitude interceptor planes in Chukotka," Shoigu said at the Russian Defense Ministry's board meeting on Thursday.
"As a result, our Far Eastern borders are solidly protected in the area between the Chukchi Sea and the Sea of Japan," he said.
The air defense network of the Eastern Military District has been developed further, Shoigu said.
