PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. March 30 (Interfax) - The Pacific Fleet's marines have been put on mock alert as part of a two-sided tactical battalion exercise in the Kamchatka Territory, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The exercise will last several days and involve in total more than a 1,000 servicemen and over 100 pieces of military hardware," the statement said.
The marines practiced actions upon getting on alert, loading of materiel and ammunition onto transport vehicles, moving military hardware to formation points and marching over 100 kilometers to assembly areas.
"While on the march, the marines repulsed a mock enemy sabotage attack on the column and practiced organizing logistics support," the press service said.
The permanent bases in military towns are stepping up security and defense, while troops are controlled from deployed reserve command posts.
