Russia, Venezuela sign agreement on cooperation in peaceful use of space

CARACAS. March 30 (Interfax) - Russia and Venezuela have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of space, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said.

"We are pleased to note that the first serious step toward the practical implementation of projects in such important high-tech area as the peaceful use of space was made as part of today's meeting," Borisov told journalists following talks with Venezuelan Minister of Industries and National Production and Minister of Petroleum Tareck El Aissami.

The intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful exploration and use of space "will enable our countries to create the necessary foundation to start developing mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.

The potential for cooperation in this sector offers a broad range of opportunities for the use of complex technological solutions of the space industry in everyday life, such as GLONASS stations, remote sensing of Earth, satellite telecommunications, and so forth, Borisov said.
