MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax) - A terrorist attack has been prevented at a fuel and energy sector facility in Russia's Tver region, and the abettor of terrorists from ISIL (banned in Russia) who was plotting it has been neutralized, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said.
"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in the Tver region thwarted the preparations for a terrorist act that a member of the Islamic State international terrorist organization, banned in the Russian Federation, was plotting to stage at a local fuel and energy sector facility," the FSB press center told reporters on Thursday.
As he was being detained, the suspect put up armed resistance and was neutralized by return fire opened by FSB special operations forces, the press center said.
No security personnel or civilians were hurt during the operation.
"Acting on orders from the leaders of terrorist organizations, this Russian citizen, who hails from a republic of the Central Asian region, obtained munitions and components for an improvised explosive device and set up a laboratory at his place of residence to make explosives," the press center said.
Firearms and ammunition, a ready-to-use improvised explosive device, and all necessary components for it were seized from his place of residence.
"A criminal case has been opened into preparations to stage a terrorist act. All necessary investigative and search operations are ongoing," the press center said.
