Putin, Aliyev discuss Karabakh situation, coronavirus pandemic over phone - Kremlin

MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev over the phone, the Kremlin press service said on Thursday.

"The situation surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed. It was noted with satisfaction that the situation is generally stable, and the ceasefire deal is being honored. Given the talks held by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Baku, the work toward unblocking economic ties and transport communications in the South Caucasus being carried out consistent with the statements released by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia dated November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021 was discussed. In this context, a positive assessment was given to the activity of the working group co-chaired by deputy prime ministers from the three countries," the press service said.

"A number of topical items on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in the containment of coronavirus infections, were touched upon. A mutual desire to continue to strengthen the Russian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership and to promote mutually advantageous projects was confirmed," the press service said.

"Further contacts were agreed upon," it said.
