YEREVAN. April 2 (Interfax) - The Armenian Armed Forces' General Staff is operating normally, and the problem has been resolved, according to General Staff Chief Artak Davtyan.
"The situation in the General Staff has been resolved, and there are no problems whatsoever. The General Staff is working normally. There are no problems with the generals who backed up the statement [demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan]," Davtyan told reporters on Friday.
He said that the situation in the region was "tense," which had an impact on the border service and life in general.
"On the whole, the situation in the region is tense. All is relatively quiet on the border, and there are no incidents," Davtyan said.
As reported earlier, Administrative Court Judge Mher Petrosyan temporarily upheld the claim from former Armenian General Staff Chief Onik Gasparyan and ordered interim measures, which declared his relief of duties by the force of law inconsistent with legal relations, for the period until a court makes the final judgment.
Therefore, the Administrative Court prohibited a new chief of the Armenian General Staff from being appointed.
However, Prime Minister Pashinyan said on March 22 that Davtyan had been appointed chief of the Armenian General Staff by the force of law.
The Armenian Prosecutor General's Office said on March 24 it had received Gasparyan's claim for opening a criminal case against Pashinyan and Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan in connection with Davtyan's appointment as the chief of the Armenian General Staff.
Gasparyan demands that Pashinyan and Harutyunyan be indicted on counts of the abuse of office causing severe consequences by negligence.
