Black Sea Fleet forces stationed in Crimea, Krasnodar Territory undergoing check

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - Black Sea Fleet forces stationed in Crimea and the Krasnodar Territory are undergoing a check, the fleet press service said on Friday.

The winter check of the Black Sea Fleet forces is being conducted in accordance with the 2021 training plan and under the supervision of Black Sea Fleet Commander Igor Osipov.

The check will include exercises and evaluation of combat training planning, cohesion of fleet units, and serviceability of weapons and military hardware, the press service said.

"On the orders from Southern Military District Commander Alexander Dvornikov, tactical battalion groups will practice together with ship crews and tactical, marine and army aviation consistent with the check's tactical scenario," it said.

"Groups of ships, ground forces, aviation and air defense will be practicing offensive and defensive missions," the press service said.

Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Russia is entitled to move military forces within its territory at its own discretion and that this does not threaten other countries.

A Ukrainian journalist asked Peskov why Russia has been deploying troops toward the Ukrainian border. "The Russian Federation is moving troops within its own territory at its own discretion, and this shouldn't concern anyone, as such actions do not endanger anyone," Peskov said.

Russia is taking relevant measures to ensure the security of its border, Peskov said. "As you know, intense activity of the armies of NATO member states and other organizations, as well as particular states, etc., is being observed on the perimeter of Russian borders. Hence, we need to stay on guard," he said.
