Sole Russian helicopter designer to digitize production

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - The Mil and Kamov National Helicopter Center (Russian Helicopters Holding Company of the Rostec state corporation) will carry out a digital transformation to accelerate the creation of new rotorcraft, the Rostec press service said.

"Already at the first stage of the implementation of the program, the Mil and Kamov National Helicopter Center will be able to cut the time required for drawing up design documentation for new helicopters by 5%-10%, and the time for technological preparation of production by up to 20%. Thus, due to the use of digital technologies, equipment will be created faster," the Rostec aviation cluster said.

The company will carry out an in-depth modernization of the workplaces of designers and engineers, as well as the entire IT infrastructure to implement a product lifecycle management (PLM) system and use the advanced tools for engineering analysis, as well as the system and 3D design, the press service said.

"Due to the largescale implementation of digital technologies, Russian Helicopters expects to cut the time for launching new helicopters on the market and increase its market share and profitability within seven years," Rostec said.

The digitalization of production will improve the use of digital twins to optimize the design, preparation of production and operation of helicopters, the state corporation said.

Rostec said that the digital transformation of the Mil and Kamov National Helicopter Center would be supported by Novikombank and the Industrial Development Fund (IDF, VEB.RF Group), which helped attract more than 1.2 billion rubles.

"According to the agreements reached, the bank provided the enterprise with a loan in the amount of 741.7 million rubles, as well as a bank guarantee for 602.5 million rubles, which made it possible to receive a preferential loan from the IDF for another 500 million rubles under the Industry Digitalization program," the press service said.

The Russian Helicopters Holding Company, which is part of the Rostec state corporation, is the sole helicopter designer and manufacturer in Russia with the capability to design, manufacture, test and maintain military and civilian helicopters. The Mil and Kamov National Helicopter Center unites two famous design schools developing Mi and Ka helicopters.
