Russia does not yet see new U.S. administration's signals of readiness to extend Treaty on Open Skies - deputy FM (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 13 (Interfax) - The new U.S. administration has not yet signaled its intentions to rejoin the Treaty on Open Skies, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Tuesday.

"I haven't noticed this interest thus far. On the contrary, I see their interest in dragging out this issue. They are continuing to play the same tune started by the Trump administration that Russia must abide by the treaty in full, something we have always done," Ryabkov said.

Russia has had its complaints to the U.S. and its partners regarding their compliance with the treaty, but "there is no point in repeating it because it's like talking to a brick wall," he said.

"They have time until the end of May. If they do not reconsider their current position, we will hand over a note to the depositories dealing with the Russian Federation's withdrawal from this treaty," Ryabkov said.
