BAKU. April 14 (Interfax) - Yerevan is making baseless accusations against Baku, and there are no Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
"The campaign of lies Armenia has been waging against Azerbaijan shows that that country still speaks from a position of hostility, is not ready for the relationship to normalize in accordance with international law, thus demonstrating that it has not yet drawn conclusions from recent events," the Foreign Ministry said.
"Armenia takes every opportunity to raise the subject of POWs," the ministry said.
The saboteurs dispatched to Azerbaijan by Armenia one month after the trilateral declaration on Karabakh was signed cannot be considered POWs, the ministry said.
"Azerbaijan has always honored its obligations, implementing the measures related to the November 10, 2020 trilateral statements, including by promptly returning all Armenian POWs to Armenia," the ministry said.
Last week, the Armenian Foreign Ministry urged Azerbaijan to refrain from "misleading the international community and to take active steps to honor its obligations under the November 9 trilateral statement and the requirements of international humanitarian law, which involve the immediate and unconditional release and return of all POWs and hostages."
Earlier on Tuesday, the Armenian Foreign Ministry commented on the unveiling of a park in Baku dedicated to the Nagorno-Karabakh war. "With the consequences of the war started by Azerbaijan against Artsakh [Armenian for Karabakh] not yet fully overcome and numerous Armenian POWs still detained in Azerbaijan, organizing such an exposition with elements of looting finally solidifies Azerbaijan's position as a global center of intolerance and xenophobia," the ministry said.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded by suggesting that the Armenian Foreign Ministry "abandon its rhetoric of total lies."
