Kazakhstan cancels this year's V-Day parade due to Covid-19 - Defense Ministry

NUR-SULTAN. April 14 (Interfax) - The Kazakh authorities have canceled this year's military parade on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day in light of the unstable epidemiological situation due to Covid-19, the press service for the Kazakh Defense Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday.

"Yes, the parade on the occasion of Victory Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day will not take place this year due to the epidemiological situation," the press service said.

Kazakhstan marks Defender of the Fatherland Day, a state holiday, on May 7 and Victory Day, also a state holiday, on May 9.

Kazakhstan canceled last year's military parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War due to coronavirus-related risks.

Covid-19 morbidity rates have been growing in Kazakhstan. Its total case count since the onset of the pandemic stands at more than 276,000.
